Amer. Queen Anne Period Sofa Frame
Location: 11-13E. 62nd St., NYC
Scope of Work:
The frame was extensively damaged by powder post beetle infestations, and the front rail was not capable of holding up under stress from webbing. Rather than have an internal frame made to support the deteriorated original rail, the owner preferred to have a new front rail made, and the rest of the 300 year old frame restored. The frame was completely disassembled, and each element restored, and the dovetail and mortise and tenon joinery shimmed and tightened prior to reupholstering with horsehair. padding. All joinery was rebuilt as origianlly made. The springs were not original, 1700's sofas and chairs had grass or Spanish moss or other natural padding, without springs originally.
