Commercial Furniture Restoration for Daniel Restaurant & DB Moderne., NYC

D.B. Moderne (Daniel Boulud's cafe on E. 43rd St., NYC) has Macassar Ebony Dining Tables needing regular maintenance from chipping out veneer

Location: 60 E. 66th St., NYC

Scope of Work:

The restaurant had chairs designed by Adam Tihany seen in the bottom left photo that had legs closely spaced together, that were unstable and frequently tipped over, breaking the internal wood frame of the curved upholstered backs. We redesigned the back interior of laminated plywood, strong as a solid board, eliminating the problem without changing the fine design. The legs were tapered less severely and more widely spaced apart to solve the stability issues. The high back dining chairs were reupholstered by Olek many times over the years, until the complete remodeling of the interior in 2008.

The original chair backs on the left were weak, and broke on many of the chairs. Laminated plywood much stronger in bent shapes than solid lumber, with no cross-graining.
